Violet Design Ltd. The Emerald
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The Emerald is a limited edition large-diaphragm FET condenser announced in March, 2012.
The capsule is Violet’s model VD26, a single-membrane capsule described as being designed to “merge the benefits of the vintage C12 and U67” capsules. The same capsule is found in the Amethyst Standard. It produces a fixed Cardioid polar pattern.
The mic has an extremely low self noise of 7dBA, making it one of the quietest condensers we’ve seen. It has a transformer-coupled output circuit.
A 3-way switch selects -10 and -20dB attenuation.
The large rectangular body and head are designed to reduce body resonance and reflections. The integrated shockmount prevents mechanical vibration interference.
It ships with a wooden case.
We will update this profile when more specifications have been made available.
