Cardioid Dynamic Microphone

The M82 is a large-diaphragm dynamic microphone, designed primarily for use with kick drums. Two onboard switches provide access to two independent EQ modes, yielding four combinations.

M82 SwitchesThe EQ circuits provide:

  • Kick EQ: a notch around 350Hz, to prevent “boxiness” in a kick track.
  • High Boost: a high shelf to boost frequencies above 2kHz, with a peak of +6dB at 10kHz, to enhance beater click in a drum or articulation on other sources such as vocals or guitar cabinets.

The mic is a moving-coil dynamic; the EQ circuits are passive circuits. The mic does not require phantom power.

The capsule is described as “large diaphragm” due to its 35mm diameter.

The M82 was announced officially at Winter NAMM 2013. It will ship with a zippered storage pouch and a mic clip. A suspension mount will be made available separately.
