Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The PG27 is a low-cost, general-purpose studio or stage condenser microphone. As part of Shure’s PG series of performance microphones, the PG27 has a reputation for rugged, durable design at an affordable price point.

It uses a center-terminated, large-diaphragm, true condenser capsule (externally biased) with a 6-micron, 27mm diaphragm (sputtered area 23.8mm). The capsule’s outside diameter is just under 35mm.

Although described in the literature as having a “flat frequency response,” the published chart shows a pronounced dual presence peak, +4dB at 6kHz and +5dB at ~12kHz.

At 22dBA, its self-noise is on the high range of comparable mics, making the PG27 best suited to loud sources.

An onboard -20dB pad raises the mic’s max SPL to 154dB (1% THD), making the microphone suitable for nearly any source, including kick drums and brass instruments. (At the time of this writing, Shure’s website cites an incorrect value of 144dB SPL.)

The mic includes a metal “ring mount” stand adapter and a zippered storage pouch. Optional accessories include the A32WS windscreen and A27SM “ShureLock” elastic shockmount.

Shure’s PG-series microphones are manufactured in China to Shure’s strict specifications.

The Shure PG27 is also known as: PG27-LC.
