Shure Beta 58A
Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone
The Shure Beta 58A is a high-output supercardioid dynamic vocal microphone. It maintains a true supercardioid pattern throughout its frequency range. This insures high gain-before-feedback, maximum isolation from other sound sources, and minimum off-axis tone coloration.
The design is rugged enough for stage use; it has a steel mesh grille and internal shock-mounting.
What is the difference between the Beta 58 and Beta 58A?
Originally the Beta 58 was available as the the Beta 58C (chrome grill) or the Beta 58M (matte grill). The Beta 58C was eventually discontinued, and the Beta 58M was renamed to Beta 58. The Beta 58 was then discontinued and replaced by the Beta 58A, which has a new cartridge. The Beta 58 had a humbucking coil and no transformer; the ‘A’ revision removes the humbucking coil but adds a transformer.

The mic was released in 1989.
