Cardioid Dynamic Microphone

The Sennheiser e815-S is the lowest-cost vocal mic in the evolution series. It is a dynamic handheld microphone with a cardioid pattern.

Like all the vocal mics in the evolution series, it has a a metal body, a shockmounted cartridge, and a humbucking coil. Like the “S” models, it has a magnetic reed switch on the mic to mute the microphone.

The e815 and e825 appear to be the same microphone, though both are currently in production with different prices.

The e815 has been packaged three ways:

  • e815S-X includes 5m XLR cable
  • e815S-J (discontinued) includes XLR/6.3mm adapter cable
  • e815S-C includes microphone clip

The e800 series vocal microphones can be distinguished as follows:

  • e815 (cardioid) - inexpensive mics for the consumer market
  • e825 (cardioid) - entry-level mic for stage use
  • e835 (cardioid) - best-selling vocal mic
  • e838 (cardioid) - this is the e840 with a silver finish
  • e840 (cardioid) - tuned for better projection on loud stages, improved feedback rejection; has 10-year warranty.
  • e845 (supercardioid) - tighter pickup pattern for more feedback rejection is needed

According to Sennheiser, all these microphones share a basic moving-coil cartridge design, but differ in the size and shape of their diaphragms, the coil windings, damping elements, and resonators.

The Sennheiser Electronics Corporation e 815 S is also known as: e815S, e815.
