Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The Sennheiser MK4 Digital is the digital version of Sennheiser’s MK4 large-diaphragm FET condenser. The onboard A/D conversion is designed by Apogee.

The MK4 Digital, like its analog counterpart, has a gold-plated 1-inch large diaphragm capsule. It is made in the same German facility as Sennheiser’s MKH and MKE microphones.

The published polar graph shows a consistent Cardioid pattern from 125Hz - 2kHz. The mic becomes somewhat more sensitive at 180º between 4kHz - 8kHz, but the narrowing of the on-axis pickup pattern that is common to most microphones does not occur until the octave above 8kHz.

The published frequency graph shows a nominally flat response from 100Hz - 3kHz, with a ~3dB presence rise centered around 10kHz. The -3dB points are 40Hz and 15kHz.

Using the MK4 Digital’s USB cable to connect the microphone to a Mac or PC computer, the microphone can be used with common DAWs and media software such as Logic Pro X, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Pro Tools or Ableton Live.

Also, using the included Lightning cable, the MK4 Digital can be directly connected to iOS devices for use with a variety of recording apps.

The microphone can record at either 16- or 24-bits up to a 96kHz sample rate.

The MK4 Digital ships with a “ring mount” clip (Sennheiser MZQ 4), a Lightning Cable, a USB cable, and a storage pouch. Optional accessories include an elastic shockmount (part number MKS 4), pop filter (p/n MZP 40), and foam windscreen (p/n MKW 4).

The microphone was unveiled at Prolight+Sound in April, 2016.
