Samar Audio Design AF11
Cardioid Ribbon Microphone
The AF11 is a new prototype unidirectional ribbon microphone, developed by Samar Audio Design founder Mark Fouxman.
The mic is a passive design, with a single ribbon element and an acoustic labyrinth behind the ribbon to create the delay network that produces the Cardioid polar pattern.
The ribbon is a single strip of extremely thin, corrugated aluminum foil, suspended within the magnetic field created by Neodymium magnets. This ribbon motor is coupled to a custom-wound output transformer, also developed by Fouxman.
The mic ships with a shockmount in a handmade wooden storage case.
The AF11 is one of a pair of unidirectional ribbon microphones introduced by Samar Audio at AES 2012; see also the sidebar link to the TF08 Hybrid microphone.
