SE Electronics X1R
Bidirectional Ribbon Microphone
The X1R is a passive ribbon microphone with a 2-micron aluminum ribbon.
According to sE Electronics, the mic’s cost is kept low by repurposing the body and chassis of the X1 condenser.
The X1R uses a mechanical acoustic filter in front of the ribbon (both front and back sides) to produce a high-frequency lift not commonly found in older ribbon designs. This technology is borrowed from the VR1/VR2 “Voodoo” ribbon line.
The mic has a figure-8 polar pattern, with a symmetrical response. (Although two graphs are published in the cutsheet PDF, these do not represent front and back response — rather, the lower graph is a sensitivity graph.)

The mic was released in 2011.
