Multi-Pattern Active Ribbon Stereo Microphone

The SF-24 Live is an active, stereo ribbon microphone, suitable for studio use but intended for stage use. Although as of this writing (Sept 2010), the SF-24L can’t be found on the Royer Labs website, the product is available as a special-order item (at no additional cost).

The SF-24L is identical to the SF-24 in every respect but two:

  • The ribbon element on the standard version is made of 1.8-micron aluminum. The “Live” version uses heavier 2.5-micron aluminum. (Note that the other mics in the Live series use 4-micron ribbons.)
  • The Royer badge on the front of the microphone is red, rather than green.

The two mics share sensitivity and frequency-response specifications, as well as a transformerless FET circuit design for impedance conversion.

For more information, see the SF-24 profile.

Royer’s Live series won the 2008 TEC award in the “Microphone Technology/Sound Reinforcement” category.

The Royer Labs SF-24 Live is also known as: SF-24L.

The mic was released in 2008.
