The Rode Videomic Pro R (VMPR) is an update to the previous Videomic Pro (VMP). The R in the model number indicates the new Rycote double-lyre shock mount.

The mic has the following changes and enhancements:

• The VMP’s rubber band shock system has been replaced by a Rycote double-lyre shockmount.


• The VMPR has a new 1/2” (12.7mm) capsule


• The new mic is now quieter: self-noise is down from 20db to 14db.


• The VMPR is twice as sensitive as the previous version. Sensitivity is now 25mV/Pa, up from 12.5mV/Pa.


• The included windscreen is thicker. This makes the mic look bigger, though it is physically the same dimensions under the windscreen.

The RØDE VideoMic Pro R is also known as: VMPR.

The mic was released in 2016.
