Red Microphones
RED Microphones was founded in 2004 by Skipper Wise and Martins Saulespurens as a side business to BLUE, their microphone manufacturing business. The RED name was an acronym for “Restoration Electronic Design;” the company’s focus was manufacturing replacement and upgrade parts for the vintage microphone restoration market.
The two microphones that were eventually released under the RED name grew out of Wise and Saulespurens’ desire to provide affordable, modern head-amp alternatives to the Neumann/Gefell CMV 563. The mics known as the Type A and Type B were designed specifically to host vintage Gefell M-series bayonet-mount capsules, as well as the BLUE family of capsules.

Wise and Saulespurens have since shut down RED Microphones. The Type A and Type B mics have been incorporated into Blue’s product line as the Blue Bottle Rocket Stage One (formerly the Type B) and the Bottle Rocket Stage One (formerly the Type A).
