Oktava MK-105
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The MK-105 is a large-diaphragm, side-address, cardioid condenser. It uses the same transformerless impedance conversion circuit as Oktava’s famous MK-102 pencil mic, although reportedly incorporating some component upgrades popularized by aftermarket MK-012 modders.
The capsule is a single-sided version of the MKL-5000 tube microphone, introduced in 2003. We believe it is a 34mm capsule with 27.5mm diaphragms.
The MK-105 capsule can also be found in the MK-102 head.
The mic’s frequency response is nominally flat from 30–3000Hz, with a broad presence boost above 5kHz, peaking at +5dB above 10kHz. This reportedly gives the microphone a modern, “hi-fi” sound.
Michael Joly 2006
An interesting feature of the MK-105 is its off-axis rejection… 180° rejection increases to 16dB below 2kHz but the top end over 4kHz stays just 8–10 dB or so below the on-axis response. This means this mic has a very natural off axis response out to 90 degrees but with a noticably bright 180 degree response… Think of this mic being able to hear “room air”.
The Oktava MK-105 is also known as: MK105.
The mic was released in 2005.
