Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone

The Myburgh Microphones M1 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser mic built in Berlin, Germany. The introduction of the M1 in early 2020 signaled the rebranding of Burg Microphones with a redesign of the Burg M1, utilizing a new circuit designed by renowned mic designers Andreas Grosser and Eckehard Dux.

The M1 is not specifically based on any particular vintage model; the company claims that it uses a new circuit design.

The M1 features a Thiersch M7 capsule (with Mylar diaphragms). It provides three polar patterns — omni, cardioid, figure-8 — switchable from the power supply.

The circuitry includes an extremely linear preamplification stage, exhibiting very little roll-off below 30Hz or above 20kHz. The M1 sports two custom-made transformers, one each in the mic and PSU. Where the original Burg model had Haufe transformers, the new Myburgh M1 features two transformers made by Pikatron, a German company with manufacturing sites throughout Germany and the Czech Republic. The tube is a Russian, military-grade “long life” unit.

Connections are made via a 7-meter (23-foot) Mogami Neglex 3172 7-pin tube mic cord and a Neutrik XLR output connection on the PSU. The mic utilizes a vintage style swivel mount and ships with a custom box for the M1, a swivel pouch and a waterproof case.
