Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The Milab SRND 360 is a compact 6-channel surround microphone. By combining signals from the 3 matched DC196 rectangular condenser capsules, an additional 3 cardioid “virtual” capsules can be accessed. The three physical cardioid capsules are spaced 120° apart.

Milab SRND 360 power supply/breakout boxA single multipin XLR cable connects the microphone to its power supply box. The rear of the PSU provides six discrete mono XLR outputs, marked left/center/right, front/rear as follows: LF, CF, RF, LR, CR, RR.

The SRND 360 can also be used as a single cardioid front facing or XY stereo rear facing by selecting the appropriate outputs on the power supply box.

Resolution 2009
The SRND 360 proved fabulous at generating rock-solid imaging when played back in 5.1, and in the case of the drum kit, again very little in terms of smearing of transient sounds. Where it wasn’t quite as good was in capturing a useful surround ambiance in the rears…I guess that’s the trade-off between a compact coincident array and a spaced mic technique for surround work.

Milab and Rycote partnered to develop a custom version of the inVision shockmount compatible with the large diameter SRND 360.
