Cardioid Tube Condenser Microphone

Gefell’s M990 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser mic with a fixed cardioid pattern. It is characterized by high sensitivity (28 mV/Pa) and high signal to noise ratio.

The tube is an EF 86 pentode, wired as a triode.

The large-diaphragm capsule is Gefell’s model M9; it uses hand-tensioned 6-micron Mylar diaphragms. The capsule is mounted on a triangular pedestal designed to reduce standing-wave coloration within the headbasket.

Microtech Gefell, 2003

The Gefell M990 is a true, hand crafted microphone that follows Gefell’s unique 75-year tradition. This means that everything from hand stretching the diaphragm, to hand drilling the back plate, and individually selecting the capsules, to the final testing is done meticulously, one at a time in both an anechoic chamber and then a live listening test.

The mic ships in a metal suitcase and includes a dedicated power supply (p/n N920.1), power cable (p/n C92.1), and elastic suspension mount (p/n EA 92). The mic’s finish is dark bronze.

The Microtech Gefell M 990 is also known as: M990.

The mic was released in 2001.
