Supercardioid Condenser Microphone

The M 940 is a supercardioid, large-diaphragm condenser mic that is known for its small size, low noise, and great sound. It is a nearly-identical sibling to the well-known M930, a cardioid-only mic.

The M940 uses an “M930” capsule, also used in the M930, M950, and the multipattern UM930 and UM930 Twin. The capsule is shockmounted within the headbasket, reducing sensitivity to structure-born noise. The directionality of the pickup pattern is varied in the M930/940/950 by the size of the holes in the backplate. Note that this is a Mylar diaphragm, not a PVC diaphragm.

The transformerless output circuit provides a high level of sensitivity (23 mV/Pa) and very low noise (6 dB-A). The self-noise rating places the M940 among the lowest-noise microphones in this database.

See the M930 profile for links to relevant reviews.

The M 940 ships in a padded wooden case in either of two finishes:

  • Satin nickel (p/n 211156)
  • Dark bronze (p/n 211157)

The M 940 is also available in factory-matched pairs, shipped in a padded wooden case with two mic clips (p/n MH 93.1), bundled either with the SH 93 X/Y stereo bar adapter or the TD 93 ORTF stereo adapter.

The Microtech Gefell M 940 is also known as: M940.
