CardioidMXL V89

Cardioid Condenser Microphone

MXL’s V89 is an all-purpose, large-diaphragm FET condenser, with transformerless output.

MXL

The custom body design minimizes body resonance, while a tuned grill cavity helps eliminate standing waves and reduces harmonic distortion.

The capsule diameter measures 32mm and uses a 6-micron, 25mm diaphragm. The same capsule can be found in several other MXL mics; see links in the sidebar.

MXL V89 Circuit BoardThe amplifier circuit employs a combination of surface-mount and through-hole components.

The V89 includes a suspension shockmount, a velvet-lined wooden storage box, and a micro-fiber cleaning cloth.

Barry Rudolph

I was pleasantly surprised by the sound, look, and build quality of the V89… even at twice the money, there is no other mic that comes close to its great sound.

The MXL V89 is also known as: V-89.

The mic was released in 2009.
