Lewitt Audio MTP 840 DM
Dynamic Microphone
The MTP 840 DM is a dynamic stage vocal microphone with unique active circuitry. It is Lewitt Audio’s flagship dynamic stage vocal microphone.
The mic has a moving-coil cartridge, which produces a sensitivity level of 3.5mV/Pa in “passive” (dynamic) mode. The mic has two switchable “active” modes, both of which require phantom power, and both of which provide a gain boost for quiet or distant sources. The gain mode is selected via a 3-position switch labeled 0dB, 6dB, 12dB; the two active modes reduce the max SPL, and the dynamic range, by amounts equal to the gain boost.
The mic’s self-noise is 19dBA; presumably this refers to the active mode(s).
A second three-position switch controls the mic’s high-pass filter, which can be set to 0dB/linear, or to a -12dB/octave rolloff at either 150Hz or 250Hz.
The position of both these switches is indicated by tiny LEDs on the metal band surrounding the grille of the microphone. Accessing the switches likely requires unscrewing the mic’s ball grille, as is true of the MTP 940 CM, this mic’s condenser sibling.
Intended for stage and touring use, the MTP 840 DM is encased in a diecast metal body. The grille is made of hardened steel mesh.
The mic ships with a storage pouch and suspension mount.
It was introduced at NAMM in January, 2013, at which time pricing had not been set.
