Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone

The JM27 is a fixed-cardioid, transformer-coupled, true condenser FET microphone.

It was originally designed by Ted Fletcher and built under his supervision by Feilo, and released in 2001 as the “JOEMEEK MicroMic JM27.” The mic was subsequently re-released at the Summer 2004 NAMM show as a “Meekrophone,” after PMI (Joemeek’s US distributor) acquired the rights to the product line. The specs for the JM27 appear to be identical before and after the aquisition.

The green version of the mic was a PMI innovation — the originals were silver.

On the circuit design, Brent Casey of PMI Audio said, “The JM27 uses the 2SK170 configured as a common source amplifier which is capacitively coupled to a step down transformer on the output. The capsule is phantom polarized at around +46v.”

No pads or filters are available on the mic.

According to Alan Hyatt of PMI, the JM27 is manufactured by Feilo, but is not a copy of lookalike SDC mics… despite having earlier stated that the JM27 is substantially the same as other Feilo-made SDCs such as the ADK SC-1.

The body is made of brass and is available in “Joemeek” green or satin silver finishes. The mic carries a 1 year warranty.

The mic is also available as a stereo pair, shipped in a case with a stereo mounting bar and metal shockmounts; look for p/n JM27PAC.

The Joemeek JM27 is also known as: JM-27, MicroMic.

The mic was released in 2001.
