Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone

The PR-31 BW is a PR-30 in a shorter body, built at the request from a customer looking to fit a PR-30 in tight spaces around a drum kit.

According to Heil Sound, the PR-31 exhibits identical acoustic performance to the PR-30.

Both mics are supercardioid dynamics with neodymium magnet structures and oversized (1.5'') diaphragms. Both are end-address. Both, according to Heil, exhibit “40dB of rear and side rejection,” although the mics’ polar plots suggest that rear rejection (180°) is ~35dB higher than at 126°, due to the rear lobe of the Supercardioid pattern.

The BW suffix in the product name is for Bob Workman, the FOH Engineer for Charlie Daniels, whose appreciation for the PR-30 led to his request that Heil “cut it in half.”

The mic was released in 2010.
