CardioidElectro-Voice PL37

Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone

The PL37 is an inexpensive small-diaphragm condenser with a rising frequency response, tailored for cymbal/overhead use. It uses an electret condenser capsule.

The capsule is a 10mm-diameter electret model, with a nickel-plated Mylar diaphragm.

In the absence of proximity effect, the mic’s frequency response rolls off gently below 1kHz, and more steeply (4dB/octave) below 200Hz. Above 1kHz, the response rises smoothly through 8kHz, then falls off sharply above 10kHz.

The mic’s high self-noise (25dBA) and low sensitivity (7mV/Pa) make it somewhat unsuitable for quiet acoustic sources.

The mic ships with a stand clip and zippered pouch. The PL37 is also available in the PL-DK7 drum mic package.

The Electro-Voice PL37 is also known as: PL-37.

The mic was released in 2008.
