Electro-Voice ND86
Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
The EV ND86 is a stage vocal microphone with a supercardioid polar pattern. It is part of EV’s ND series of microphones.
Like the rest of the revised ND-series microphones, the ND86 has a large moving-coil cartridge with a lightweight Mylar diaphragm. The cartridge is shock-mounted using a four-point suspension, to reduce handling noise. A foam layer covers the diaphragm to prevent moisture contamination.
The mic uses a humbucking coil to reduce magnetic interference.
The grill of the ND86 is made from EV’s “memraflex” material, which is a very rigid mesh that resists dents and damage from drops.
As the ND designation would indicate, the magnet in the ND86 is neodymium, which gives higher output and reduces physical weight as compared to a traditional (“AlNiCo”) magnet.
The frequency chart for the ND86 shows an almost identical frequency response to that of the ND76. However, as previously stated, the ND86 has a supercardioid pattern, which makes it somewhat more resistant to off-axis bleed than a Cardioid microphone would be.
The ND86 is sold with a mic clip and cloth bag.
The Electro-Voice ND86 is also known as: ND 86, ND-86.
The mic was released in 2016.
