Electro-Voice ND76
Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
The EV ND76 is a stage vocal microphone. It is part of EV’s ND series of mics, and it replaces the N/D 767a mic, now discontinued. It is the least expensive vocal microphone in the ND line.
From specifications and available information, we conclude that all of the ND microphones (except from the small diaphragm condenser ND66) share a large diaphragm, moving-coil cartridge with a Mylar diaphragm. Exact measurements are unknown.
The capsule in the ND76, and all the ND dynamics, is shock mounted with a four-point suspension for durability and handling noise. It also contains a humbucking coil to combat electrical interference. The capsule is covered in a foam layer that protects against moisture.
The grill of the ND76 is made from EV’s “memraflex” material, which is a very rigid mesh that resists dents and damage from drops.
As the ND designation would indicate, the magnet in the ND76 is neodymium, which gives higher output and reduces physical weight.
The frequency chart for the ND76 shows a significant peak of +8db at 6kHz. This appears to be balanced by a significant proximity effect of +11db at 100Hz when the mic is placed 1cm from the source.
The ND76 is sold with a mic clip and cloth bag.
The ND76 is also available with an on/off switch as the ND76S (MSRP $198).
The Electro-Voice ND76 is also known as: ND 76, ND-76.
The mic was released in 2016.
