N/D478 Documentation

CardioidElectro-Voice N/D478

Cardioid Dynamic Microphone

The N/D478 is a cardioid dynamic mic intended for vocal or instrument reproduction.

Like the rest of the N/D series, it uses a Neodymium magnet within its moving-coil cartridge, resulting in higher output levels.

The mic has a built-in EQ circuit that reduces low-end muddiness due to proximity effect. This filtering system is called VOB, for “Vocally Optimized Bass.”

ProAudioReview, 2010

The Electro-Voice N/D478 had the leanest bottom end of the group and, consequently, offered the most forward midrange; these are qualities that were just right on snare. The N/D478 had no undesirable qualities and was quite good everywhere, but floor tom; paired with an EQ, it could get the job done on any of the above tests.

The Electro-Voice N/D478 is also known as: ND478.
