SupercardioidElectro-Voice N/D357

Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone

The N/D357 was an early handheld vocal mic from Electro-Voice’s Neodymium series. It was replaced in the product line by the N/D367, which offered slightly higher sensitivity (3 mV/Pa) and lower noise (14 dBA).

The 357 offered several features that were retained in later designs:

  • Elastomeric Warm-Grip™ handle
  • Windscreen bumper
  • Shockmounted dynamic element
  • Built-in Acoustifoam™ pop filter
  • Supercardioid pickup pattern (produces more gain before feedback)

The mic’s frequency response changed with proximity to the source — within 12 inches, “proximity” effect caused up to 18dB of boost below 500Hz. Electro-Voice described this response as “tailored to provide bass boost without the boominess of many directional microphones.”

The Electro-Voice N/D357 is also known as: N/D357, N/D357S.
