Electro-Voice
EV founders Al Kahn and Lou Burroughs founded a business servicing radio receivers in 1927, in South Bend, IN. They lost everything in the depression and turned to audio design work, selling off what was left of the repair service and retail operation.
Their first product was a public-address system, sold to Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne. He coached the team from a tower, and called the PA system his “electric voice.” This inspired the name of the new company, founded by Kahn and Burroughs is July, 1930.
