Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The en•CORE 300 is a handheld condenser microphone, intended for stage vocal reproduction. It is the flagship model of Blue’s “performance” series of microphones.

The mic’s capsule is a 14mm electret design, with a thin (described as “2-3 micron”) diaphragm of Mylar metallized with aluminum. Like most small-diaphragm capsules, it is edge-terminated.

A similar capsule, using different diaphragm material, can be found in BLUE’s Yeti and Snowball microphones.

The 300 capsule’s built-in FET is bypassed, in favor of higher-grade circuitry within the microphone handle. This allows the mic to achieve superior performance as compared to designs that rely on the capsule’s internal electronics.

According to the published polar diagram, the enCORE 300 has a much narrower pickup pattern than its dynamic siblings. From 125Hz–1kHz, the 300’s sensitivity at 90° is 15dB lower than on-axis.

The frequency response graph shows two presence peaks: +6dB at 6kHz and +8dB at 15kHz. The graph’s -3dB points are around 65Hz on the low end, and above 15kHz on the high.

As is true of all the enCORE vocal microphones, the 300 uses internal shockmounting to reduce handling noise.

The mic’s headbasket can be unscrewed to allow for cleaning or replacement of the foam insert.

The mic ships with a “soft-grip” clip and a storage pouch.

The mic was released in 2009.
