The sharp high-frequency peak of the Avant CU-2 (+7dB @ 12kHz) can be revoiced with a flatter, broader, more musical presence peak by swapping the stock capsule with a 34mm RK-47, a copy of the Neumann K-47.

Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The CU-2 is a large-diaphragm Class-A FET USB microphone, designed for plug-and-play operation with any USB computer — no preamp needed.

The capsule is a true condenser, with a 35mm diaphragm.

The onboard ADC (analog to digital converter) is capable of 24-bit, 96-kHz operation. This distinguishes the CU-2 from most USB mics, which are limited to 16-bit operation, and often to 44.1 kHz as well.

The CU-2 ships in a padded wooden box with a suspension shockmount (which doesn’t fit in the box), a 3-meter USB cable, and a 5-year warranty.

The mic was announced at Winter NAMM 2007, and began shipping mid-year.

The Avantone Pro CU-2 is also known as: CU2.

The mic was released in 2007.
