Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone

The TR40A is an omnidirectional measurement-style microphone. The capsule is a 6mm electret design, very likely similar to that found in the Behringer ECM8000.

The ‘A’ revision of this mic appears to have been introduced in late 2008 or early 2009. Changes from the TR40 include:

  • Max SPL dropped from 128dB to 120dB
  • Sensitivity decreased from 17.9 mV/Pa to 12 mV/Pa
  • Self-noise increased from 17 dBA to 28 dBA
  • Signal-to-noise ratio decreased from 77dB to 66dB
  • The machined brass body was replaced with a cast metal body.
  • The TR40A has an output transformer. (We believe the TR40 did not.)

The published frequency graph did not change at all, and is therefore probably not accurate, as there is no way the electronic specs could change so dramatically without producing some visible change to the plot.
