HypercardioidAudix D1

Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone

The Audix D1 is a hypercardioid dynamic microphone intended for instrument use. Part of Audix’ D-series, it used the same body and capsule design; the primary differences among the original four D-series mics were in sensitivity and frequency response.

The D1 body is milled from solid aluminum. The grille is made of “spring steel” wire mesh. The D mics all have gold-plated XLR jacks.

The D1’s hypercardioid pickup pattern facilitates miking single instruments on a crowded stage, or individual drums within a studio environment. The mic’s small size makes positioning relatively easy.

The D-series microphones are distinguished visually by the color of the inner wire mesh, within the black grille. The D1 uses a light grey inner mesh. (The D2 and D4 use black and red mesh, respectively.)

The D1’s output is transformerless. The output is balanced and low-impedance (250Ω).
