Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The ATR2500-USB is an inexpensive large-diaphragm condenser microphone intended for home recording and podcasting.

Two pushbutton controls on the front of the microphone adjust the volume of the onboard headphone jack. By attaching headphones to the microphone, the input signal can be directly monitored without latency.

There are no onboard controls for input gain; the mic’s gain must be set via its driver software on the host computer.

The onboard ADC (analog to digital converter) is capable of 16 bit operation at either 44.1 or 48 kHz. There is no onboard DAC, so far as we can tell, so there is no way to play back prerecorded tracks through the headphone jack for the purposes of overdubbing with this microphone.

An LED below the mic’s grille glows blue to indicate that power is being received from the host computer via the USB cable. This LED does not change color to indicate input signal level.
