Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone

The ATM25 was a hypercardioid dynamic microphone intended for close instrument miking, especially drums and percussion.

The mic’s polar graph showed a relatively consistent hypercardioid pickup pattern, with deep nulls at ±135° across much of the audible spectrum.

The frequency graph shows a mild midrange scoop, with a low-frequency push of +3dB at 60Hz and a presence boost of +7dB at 3kHz, with a secondary peak of +6dB at 7500Hz. Above 9kHz, the mic’s response falls off sharply.

Neodymium magnets within the moving-coil cartridge contribute to the mic’s relatively high output level of 1.9 mV/Pa.

The Audio-Technica ATM25 is also known as: ATM-25.
