Cardioid Tube Condenser Microphone

The AT4060a is a medium-diaphragm tube condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid polar pattern. This is an update of the AT4060, revised to comply with RoHS regulations, and to incorporate changes in the capsule, power supply, and circuit.

AT4060a tube
The AT4060a has a fixed cardioid polar pattern. It has no pad or filter controls. The circuit uses a Sovtek 6922 vacuum tube; both of the triodes are wired in parallel, according to ATUS. Wiring two triodes in parallel reduces the output impedance of the tube, enabling use of a lower-ratio output transformer.

The capsule in the AT4060A is identical to the one used in the AT4050 and AT4047 (both SV and MP models), according to ATUS. It is a dual-sided, multipattern capable design; presumably, when installed in a Cardioid-only mic like the AT4060A, the rear diaphragm’s electrical contact is not used.

The capsule is surrounded by a perforated baffle, made of machined brass with nickel plating. The shape of this baffle differs in the AT4047. The physical differences most likely affect both frequency response and polar pattern, because the baffle influences sound waves propagating from front to rear diaphragms.

The diaphragm material is 2 microns thick, “aged” via a proprietary 5-step lab process, and plated with gold.

The AT8560A power supply incorporates a component change, with no effect on the unit’s performance as compared to the earlier version, according to ATUS.

This mic ships with the AT8560a power supply, an AT8447 shock-mount, rack mount adapters for the power supply and a vinyl case.
