Apex Electronics 191
Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone
The Apex 191 is a small-diaphragm electret pencil condenser with cardioid polar pattern.
It is essentially the same mic as the Apex 190, but includes an internal battery compartment (for a single 1.5V AA/UM3 battery), enabling the 191 to be used where phantom power is not available.
An On/Off switch on the mic body saves battery life when not in use.
The mic’s stated sensitivity, 0.56 mV/Pa, is remarkably low. In fact it is lower than the Shure SM7B dynamic, which is somewhat famous for its low sensitivity. If the 0.56mV/Pa figure is correct, it means the Apex 190/191 are only suited to relatively loud sources.
These mics’ self-noise figure is probably in excess of 22dBA.
The 191 ships with a mic clip, foam windscreen and soft carry bag.
