Bidirectional Ribbon Microphone

THe AEA R44 microphone is a museum quality replica of the 1936-38 RCA 44, hand-made by AEA using 1.8 micron ribbon material originally manufactured (and warehoused) by RCA. Black and silver “radio” finish with bright polished chrome grill, yoke and cushion mount. Museum grade version features details such as a bronze investment cast yoke rather than the factory zinc yoke. R44C parts are interchangeable with the original RCA 44B and BX. Supplied with hard wired two meter XLR output cable, shock mount / mic stand adapter, and AEA 44 VC vertical case for proper shipping and storage.

The R44C and R44CX use Neodymium magnets, which are more powerful than the Alnico magnets used in the original RCA ribbon mics. The stronger magnets produce slightly higher output than the RCA 44s.

The R44CX version has 6dB more output than the original RCA 44B and BX, and is slightly more forward sounding.

The R44CNE “International” version combines the 1930’s US sound with British engineering from RCA Ltd. that reduces the mic’s weight and hum sensitivity.

The R44 is also offered as the more affordable R44CE. The R44CE is cosmetically plainer but retaining identical internal parts and sound. The differences are as follows:
- satin nickel finish
- single-piece black anodized aluminum cushion mount
- bent steel yoke
- Accusound MX4 cabling (versus Accusound Silver Studio Pro).

Hand-matched pairs are available.

The R44C was part of our $60,000 Ribbon Mic Shootout.

The AEA R44C is also known as: R44, R44CX, R44CNE.
